Katie McCusker announces she is seeking preselection for the Senate number 1 position in the Greens SA

Katie McCusker, the candidate that shifted the political dial in Adelaide’s East, will be contesting the Senate preselection for the Greens SA. Having stood in multiple campaigns over the years, Katie has made Sturt the most winnable seat for the Greens in South Australia.

Katie brings with her a strong foundation of community connections, values led leadership and experience of working in parliamentary settings: a perfect blend of political and life experience to offer the Greens in this next federal election.

Katie is driven by a belief that in a wealthy country like ours, everyone should be able to afford the basics and a safe planet to live on. She has given decades of service to the people of South Australia, whether that be by keeping a roof over renters’ heads under threat of eviction, or supporting nurses, doctors and allied workers in a health system struggling to meet demand, or through advocacy work for constituents in South Australia.

Katie plans to bring her strong facilitation, mediation, and leadership skills to the Senate, alongside colleagues with whom she already has well established relationships.

“Few people have knocked on as many doors as I have to connect with people and find out what really matters to them. That community connection matters irrespective of whether you seek a lower house seat or a Senate seat.”

“I am putting my hand up to run for preselection as I have a solid public profile and a track record of being able to represent the Greens. I have the respect of party members across the country and strong relationships with many organisations.

“I make no secret of what drives me - I want a better future for all of us.

“The Greens can win and I have the determination, tenacity, and the proven track record to shift the political dial. I offer a unique blend of experience across parliament, movement building, and community connection - I want to offer this to Greens members in South Australia when they vote in this preselection for the Senate.”
